the virus originated from several labs, five years in the past, trying to come up with a serum that will cure all diseases and let people be more than they are. depending on the scientist, different serums caused a different mutation within the test subjects, who were typically young children. instead of gaining immortality, they gained wings and horns and beaks.
so, here on LWD, the reason that there's the mutations in people is because of the mutation virus. it is only spread by being injected into the blood, or by some form of blood transfer or contamination. that's it, end of story. there is absolutely no cure for it, at the time. the first transformation is extremely painful, and people have almost no control of their new powers at first. however, those who are given the serum do not have this first transformation for about a month after they got it, which is the amount of time it takes for the gene to work its way through the body. at first, different species have different levels of control, and it should be somewhat obvious as to which.
