The damn thing won't leave him alone and he's tried several times to ditch it, only to wake up later on and find it curled up against him. He's finally started calling it a name, and it's finally found a place to ride around inside of his pocket during the day. If anyone tries messing with it - dubbed Kiba - that's reason enough for him to get angry and upset. Not that he'd ever admit to such a thing.
------------------------------------------------- PERSONALITYRyder has always been the quiet and distant sort. Even as a child, he wasn't like his peers, who played and were socially acceptable. He was the black sheep - always in the background, always preferring the quiet of his own little spaces. He's still like that to this day, and prefers to keep everyone at a mostly arms length. There's no real rhyme or reason to it, that's just how he is. Those that do get close enough are part of his tight knit little group, and inside of it, Ryder is loyal and protective. He'll willingly fight for them, but others... it takes a bit more for him to willingly fight for someone else. No matter what though when he does engage in any sort of combat, he's vicious and he won't go down without taking someone with him. ------------------------------------------------- HISTORYGrowing up was pleasant enough. As the son of an American mother and Japanese father, he was often shuttled between the two countries as a kid. Upon the death of his American grandmother though, the family settled in the United States for a long period of time. None the less, his mother insisted her son live the life of a traditional Japanese boy, no matter that his blood was only half in it. He spoke Japanese, ate Japanese, studied like a Japanese student. It was all good and well - he was quiet, yet studious, and it let him avoid the social situations he grew up despising.
After graduating from high school, Ryder went on to study criminal justice and law at a prestigious University. He had no intentions of becoming a lawyer, or even a cop, but he knew he wanted to do something in the law enforcement field. Upon graduation, he decided he wanted to work for himself, as it would suit his nature more, and he came to the realization that private investigation would be right up his alley.
First though, he needed a change. America was good, and he loved his home country very much, but he wanted to know more about Japan. Moving to his mother's home of Nazo was easy enough, and with family and friends still in the area, it wasn't difficult to get settled in. Nor was it difficult for him to set up his own investigative firm. It was slow to begin with, but as time went on, and he successfully solved case after case, caught criminal after criminal, things started to take off.
But no matter how successful he got to be, he never once considered bringing someone on as partner. Working on his own, that was the only reason he went into his particular field, and he was keeping things just the way they were. Which meant long hours and not much sleep, but he enjoyed it and never complained - not that he would have, had there been anyone to listen. Perhaps it wasn't the best choice, but it was a realization that didn't come to him until well after the infection reached his system.
It was after yet another sleepless night. Coffee cups were scattered around his car, but he had finally cornered the perp he'd been after for months. He had no idea that the man had already injured himself, didn't know the perp was bleeding, didn't realize what was going on until they ran through an alley. Ryder managed to grab onto the perp, only to be swung at with a knife. It cut him, though not deep. It was when he was stabbed in the side that he noticed the perp was bleeding through a bandage.
It was when the man ran off, transformed, and flew away, that he knew something wasn't right. He'd heard about the mutants, but never officially seen one. At times, he didn't believe them either. He woke up in a hospital with no recollection of how he got there. That night, he tried to leave on his own, and when they tried to stop him... all he remembers is running, running and not stopping even to look behind him. He managed to get to his apartment, knowing he probably shouldn't stay, gathered a few things, and took off again.
Although he's still in Nazu, he's cautious about his movements. He fights, willingly, when the situation calls for it. But if he can avoid drawing the attention of the Church or Hunters, he'd rather not having a group of them on his tail. ------------------------------------------------ THE PERSON BEHIND THIS WONDERFUL CHARACTER IS GENERALLY CALLED YURIKO AND SITS AT TWENTY-NINE. SHE LIVES IN THE CENTRAL TIMEZONE.
