JUST ANOTHER DAY [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: #17181A, border: solid #ffffff; 5px; width: 400px; height: 500px;] it was a slow day. zen didn't really have anything planned for the day, especially since not too much was going on. he was aware of the religious group that named itself only months prior -- of course he was on the look out for any of the members who were openly involved. he was pretty sure that unless he didn't bring attention to himself, he would blend in well with the others here. but of course, he wouldn't be informed to a change in their plans until it was already happening. for all he knew, they had some secret method for spotting those of his kind. those like him who were given a special serum. because him and others like him had gained the ability to turn into greater beings, they were constantly being followed, some getting killed..
but enough of that. with a straight face, zen opened the door to the starbucks. the scent of coffee beans was in the air -- and whether or not normal humans could smell it was beyond him -- and so, he decided to grab himself a cup. the gryphon didn't have preference to which kind of beverage he got here, so he usually pulled one of those 'whatever the person behind the counter felt like making' moves. after ordering something random, he turned to make his way down to the opposite end of the counter.
something at the end of the room caught his attention, a sparkle of some sort. his eyes flickered over to where he'd seen it, and there it was -- a small knife or dagger of sorts was tucked firmly in a holster against someone's waist. when the man noticed that zen was looking, he sent a angry gaze in his direction before pulling his overcoat over his lap. blinking in surprise, zen stumbled over someone whom he assumed was waiting for their order. the man's face flushed a little, embarrassed that he'd not only rapidly gotten the attention of everyone in the store, but that he'd openly tripped over someone who had been standing right in front of him. the hell was he doing?! zen ended up on the floor, although he'd caught himself on his hands before he totally forfeited his pride.
after scrambling back to his feet, zen lightly pulled his hat back down over his head before glancing over at the man he'd tripped over. "uh, i'm sorry. i wasn't paying too much attention, was i?" he gave a small, nervous laugh, his hand still on the back of his head.

once inside he relaxed slightly, ordering himself something simple so his presence didn't come off as too suspicious. besides, after a rough night with barely any sleep he supposed a cup couldn't hurt. it would make him feel more confident about going out again with better alertness. so once he ordered, he stood at the end of the counter, waiting for them to bring him his drink whenever he spotted someone approaching out of the corner of his eye. it wasn't fast enough however and he watched as the guy tripped over him, falling to the ground. 'what the hell?' he thought to himself as he looked down to him.
instead of going to help him, he didn't bother and simply stood there, hands in his pockets as he looked down to him with a questioning expression on his face. once he finally got up and apologized ryo rolled his eyes, now recognizing who it was. zen ichimori. they hadn't talked much but he knew he wasn't someone he had to worry too much about.
"yeah." he simply agreed, giving a slight chuckle at his nervous demeanor as well as the faint blush. well, he definitely didn't seem like much of a threat. but there was something that had him unfocused on where he was walking. he was half tempted to ask but everyone's attentions were still on them and he didn't want to risk anything. he sighed before looking back down to him. "no harm no foul i guess." he spoke to settle any bad feelings from him. "you okay?" he asked, sounding like he was referring to the fall but cared a little more at what had his attention before the accident. [/style] |

JUST ANOTHER DAY [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: #17181A, border: solid #ffffff; 5px; width: 400px; height: 500px;] the guy hadn't even offered to help zen up, but he didn't mind. besides, it was zen's stupid fault for falling over someone who was clearly in front of him. but nonetheless, he'd dragged himself up all the floor. well, this was awkward. when zen glanced up and actually looked at who he'd fallen over, he realized a moment too late that it was a familiar face looking back at him. for a second, he wasn't quite sure what this guy's name was, but he distinctly remembered him being older than himself. with a shake of the head, zen dropped his arm back to his side.
"yeah, i guess so. thanks," he replied, responding to ryo saying that it wasn't that big a deal. he still felt a little bad though, especially since he still hadn't remembered what the guy's name was. something sparked in his head though, about how this guy was one of zen's own kind. well, not exactly, but they were close enough. this guy's name was on the tip of zen's tongue, but he couldn't quite grasp it.
so when ryo asked if zen was okay, the latter blinked in surprise. well, he hadn't scrapped his knees or anything, so he wondered why ryo was asking. "i'm fine, but.." he started, glancing hesitantly at the man across the room. he didn't want to say anything in front of the group of people, so he just shook his head for now. with a shake of the head, he turned his gaze to the counter at all the workers. when one of the girls called out ryo's name for his finished order, zen mentally thanked them for reminding him of ryo's name

as he thanked him, he simply nodded. "don't have to thank me but no problem." he smirked, turning his attention to the employees as he watched them put the finishing touches on his drink. he was still a little tired which was evident on his face. but his dark red eyes seemed inhumanly focused and he listened around the room for anything suspicious. there were a few whisperings going on from what he could only imagine to be about the fall but nothing too worth of noting. he sighed at the thought before finally looking back to zen as he answered his question.
he caught his words drifting off, watching him look across the room. he looked to the area he had seached out of the corner of his eye, unsure who or what he was looking at. but he decided that was all he needed to be suspicious of what was going on. his eyes narrowed slightly at the thought till he heard his name called, going towards the counter and grabbing his order. once he recieved his drink, he turned back to zen as he took a sip of the coffee, thinking up his next move. and he was sure anyone who knew him would be a little surprised by his plan. then again, he was acting pretty strange already being the bad guy and all.
"join me once you get your drink?" he offered, a look in his eyes suggesting it was more of a plan then an actual offer. if he could get him to talk to him while they weren't just standing at the counter where everyone could see them, perhaps he could figure out what was going on better before he jumped to any conclusions. "make up for you tripping over me." he added just for anyone else who may have been listening in on their conversation.[/style] |

JUST ANOTHER DAY [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: #17181A, border: solid #ffffff; 5px; width: 400px; height: 500px;] everything that came from this guy seemed to be accompanied by a sarcastic smile or chuckle of some sort. it kind of amused zen, really, even if he didn't show it. at least in this crappy, awful life, the guy still had a sense of humor. but zen wasn't about to talk about the good old days, not here. besides, he only just barely knew this guy. not really enough to say that he knew knew him, but good enough to know that he wouldn't try to attack zen. besides, birds of a feather and all that.
with another glance around the room, zen noticed that the man who had the knife was absently looking out the window but was stealing glances over every so often. was that guy..one of the hunters zen had been warned about? there was a religious group that opened displayed their hate of zen's kind, of mutants, so he knew that sooner or later, he'd come across one of them. it was just strange that one of the 'bad guys' was hanging out at a starbucks. would the enemy really go so far as to actually attack them in broad daylight in the middle of public? surely not! that would be crazy..right? or was that the plan? to draw the mutants out into the open for all the normal people to see and despise? perhaps. if that was the case, zen wasn't so sure he liked this new hunting group.
when ryo received his coffee and gave the suggestion for zen to join him, the latter was dragged back from his thoughts. he gave a short nod and a small smile, hoping it seemed genuine in front of all these people. wondering if ryo was going to go and get a table, zen waited patiently for his name to be called. not a minute had gone by before he heard it, and he made his way to the front of the counter, taking it from the woman who offered it to him. giving thanks, he turned on the spot to see where ryo had gone.

once zen agreed, he nodded, taking another sip as he casually made his way to an open seat, making sure to put some distance between the area the younger mutant seemed wary of. he also made sure that he could see the area without much effort so he could keep a close eye on the people there, carefully examining each person while he waited for zen to arrive.
most would probably wonder why he was even letting zen be anywhere near him. he was known for his lack of trust in people and because of it, he'd avoid being around others. and they were right. he really was mistrustful for personal reasons. he barely even trusted zen. but the reason behind him trusting zen slightly was perhaps only because he didn't see much danger from the boy. if he did decide to turn on him, he was sure he could handle him. arrogant? maybe. but the boy could look forward to not having to worry about ryo kicking his ass. that's a pretty good perk, right?
once zen got his drink and arrived, ryo looked over to him, waiting for him to take a seat before finally asking what was on his mind. "so... 'great weather', 'how have you been?', all that good stuff. tell me what's up." he spoke lowly enough for only the two of them to hear. he wasn't the friendliest guy. people knew that. so he couldn't help but get to the point. that was really all he cared about. afterwards, maybe he could be a little more decent. no promises though. JUST ANOTHER DAY [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: #17181A, border: solid #ffffff; 5px; width: 400px; height: 500px;] after ryo had wandered off to a booth and zen had received his coffee, the latter took a sip of it to make sure it was okay. it was always awkward when you left or made your way over to a table, sat down and got situated, and realized they gave you the wrong thing. it was a giant waste of time, really. but, after drinking a bit and smiling faintly to himself, he grabbed a small stirring straw and turned around, quickly locating where ryo had taken a seat. he wasn't hard to spot considering his hair color seemed to stand out a bit.
zen took a seat opposite him, although it sort of meant that he was turning his back on the man with the knife. he knew he could trust ryo to say something if anything went down, though. zen was pretty easy going like that. of course, he would be stupid to believe that ryo would just sit there and watch a man with a weapon just walk over..so maybe it wasn't zen being a trusting guy. it was mainly the fact that he was relying on instincts here. in any case, zen would know if anything happened.
the boy nodded and smiled at ryo when he threw out all the normal conversation starters. with a shrug, he shifted his gaze around the store. "not too much, i guess." he brought the cup to his lips, taking a sip of the still-steaming beverage. absentmindedly, he stirred the liquid around with the stirring straw he'd grabbed. he loved playing with these things. but when he realized that ryo must have caught onto zen's "hints" about the guy in the back, he lowered his voice, too.
"guy in the back corner with the overcoat. light brown hair. when i walked in, i saw that he had a knife strapped to his leg. not sure if he's a bad guy, but he hid it as soon as he noticed i was looking at him." that was all he said, quickly relapsing into silence as he waited for ryo to say something. maybe zen was just too cautious for his own good. maybe that guy just carried around a knife for self-defense. besides, most of the human population feared the mutants, thought that they were evil. but then again, zen wouldn't put it past a hunter to just sit in public watching everyone..
