- despite her strong act, she’s actually very insecure
------------------------------------------------- PERSONALITYno one really knows much about her. heck, most people don’t even know her name. this is sakura hisana ishida.
closed off from the world, she hides behind her emotionless mask. if you’ve ever seen her around school…well, it’s very rare that you do, unless you pay attention. she has a talent to fade into the background, and no one really notices her. she’s very quiet around others, appearing to be shy, the introverted mute kid that sits isolated in the corner or in the back, lost in her own world. no friends, no nothing, just a small journal and a pen she carries around everywhere. “if you try to talk to her, she just stares at you with those creepy unblinking eyes and just stands there,” one student complained to his friend. “she doesn’t even seem to have emotions or anything! she’s insane! i doubt she even understands what i’m saying.”
that’s her act at school.
outside of school, she’s cold and hostile to strangers. if someone insists on talking to her or challenging her, she can be aggressive and arrogant. normally, she wears the proud, superior, fearless mask, and won’t give you a second glance. cocky and snarky, it’s not hard to hate her. she uses sarcasm a lot, and always has an insult or a sharp retort at the tip of her tongue. she isn’t one to fall for those probes for a challenge, and instead backs out smoothly with a sly reply, very foxlike, but if there’s no way out, she doesn’t want to look like a coward, so she’ll agree.
and lastly and definitely not least, her real self. this side only comes out when she’s alone, in her thoughts, with loved ones, with those like her, or with her victims. she doesn’t like people knowing her, so she puts up all those fake layers to prevent that. people close to her, they could destroy her with little effort. she’s dead loyal to her loved ones, since she normally has only one or two. currently, she has nobody, so she’s not too concerned by betrayal. she also considers love to be a weakness, but has a particularly strong instinct to get attached to someone, so she generally stays away from others. she loves killing, and does it for sport. being able to take lives easily makes her feel in control, but she insecure and honestly doesn’t know what she’s doing most of the times. to substitute for the emptiness in her life, she has a voice in her head, her wolf instinct. she doesn’t know who else to trust, so she listens to the voice most of the times. during hunting, she can be very sadistic, and likes to hear her victims scream and beg for mercy. [O.o] she thinks it’s amusing when her prey tries to put up a fight. torture is her favorite, and she likes to play with her victims and make them squirm before killing them. she can be pretty creative with her kills. that serial killer on the loose? probably her.
when she’s out in public, although it may not seem like it, she’s very perceptive. those blank eyes are actually capturing your slightest movements when you are unaware. she’s a bit of what you call paranoid, tends to overthink things, and has trust issues, and carries a pair of short twin katana swords around with her, usually strapped to her under her shirt or belt, or slid carefully in her boots. having years of practice, she’s quite skilled with them. while she’s been trained in karate for a while too, at a brown stripe belt level, she’s horrible at academics, and views them as unnecessary anyways. she’s street smart, but doesn’t know how and why the fuck she needs to know how to figure out the volume of a rectangle, and barely knows how to spell, but she writes when she’s lonely.
in this cruel world, she needs to be strong, so she’s naturally scared of her weaknesses and that someone else might be able to use them against her. she’s a bit selfish, really, because by protecting a loved one, she’s also protecting herself. she fears betrayal from someone she’s confided her trust in, because they knew how to tear her apart. she isn’t that frightened by the concept of physical pain, but rather emotional. also, she’s terrified of water, as in lakes and streams and oceans, due to an incident in her past.
------------------------------------------------- HISTORYnow the dark begins to rise
her family was born into a poor life. always the obedient child, five-year-old saki stood there in the corner of the house, though it could barely be called a house. her family lived in a one-room home with stone walls and a dirt floor and a glassless square window. over time, cracks had appeared on the rough barriers, and the corners were decorated with cobwebs. she silently watched as her parents packed up their few belongings in a dirty, worn-out sack. after a few more moments, they were ready to go. to start a new life.
~~~~~~~~~~ save your breath, it’s far from over
it had gone all wrong.
“momma…” saki’s voice trailed into nothing as she saw the grim, determined look on her mother’s face. her mother held her hand. the rough currents tossed the canoe, rocking and bumping, down the wide stream. have hope. the black waves leaped up hungrily, churning up the waters. their small boat wobbled unstably. “momma,” saki tried again as the water threatened to tip the canoe, growing discomfort evident in her voice, and her father took her into his arms. “shh, quiet, darling.” a warning instinct of danger continued to nag at her. looking over her father’s shoulder, saki could see the figures running along the shore, sprinting alongside the boat. a whimper crept into her throat as her father stroked her hair gently. ruby red eyes peered out from the shadows and locked eyes with her.
hounds, at least half a dozen of them. why are they following us? but saki felt too tired and sleepy to talk anymore, and closed her eyes, letting the boat rock her to oblivion.
~~~~~~~~~~ leave the lost and dead behind
cold. saki blinked open her eyes, unable to register the scene. darkness. darkness everywhere; it surrounded her. she felt so numb. she noticed that her father was holding her up, although he was shivering himself. they were in the water. from a few yards away, her mother swam towards them. then the hounds were in the water too.
her mother’s sharp shriek had cut through the hazy cloud in her mind, leaving only cold reality. then saki had began to scream too, unable to do anything else as a red tint slowly began to envelop the water, but her father jumped into motion, and began swimming towards the shore, saki clinging desperately to her father’s shoulders. it was too late to save saki’s mother, that was for sure. they might have a chance if they could get to the shore and run and reach a village before the hounds reached them.
and of course, they didn’t make it in time. the hounds pounced, and saki was flung from her father’s body into the water a few feet away. the darkness was consuming, and she was completely vulnerable. even before the mutation shot, her survival instinct was strong. swim, swim, swim, swim, swim…now climb up onto the shore…crawl over there… if not for the lessons her parents had given her at the tiny pool near their previous home, she wouldn’t have made it. the heavy water tugged on her clothes, dragging her down. she was too stunned to panic, and kept following the subconscious orders, the only stable thing in this world. swim, swim, swim… the hounds didn’t see her, already occupied. the haze was back, and she barely noticed the vague screams as her father was torn apart. she dragged herself under a bush, where it was warmer and cozy, and drifted off. she still didn’t know why the hounds had been chasing after her family.
~~~~~~~~~~ now’s your chance to run for cover ~ nine years later
fourteen-year-old saki made her way down the street at night, heading for her home of an abandoned cabin. she usually didn’t stay out this late, but the week earlier, she’d found a perfect opportunity: a woman, pretty rich by the looks of her house, was leaving on vacation for two weeks, leaving her house isolated. for the past week now, saki had been breaking in each day, carrying as much as she could carry, going to the black market, and selling furniture and jewelry for money. stealing was how she had survived for the past years, and no one questioned her age because treasure was treasure. she’d scored the jackpot at this woman’s house, and had made three times her usual profit.
as she made the familiar corner turn onto her street, she froze. there was a slight whizzing sound she’d never heard before, and before she had time to think, something thin and sharp stabbed into her neck, and her vision faded into black.
~~~~~~~~~~ and i’ll survive, paranoid i have lost the will to change
they’d kept her in the cage for a month. food and water had been given daily, yes, but that had been it. saki still wore the same clothes she’d worn a month ago. she didn’t know why she was being kept at the lab. for some reason, a scientist checked on her everyday. where the fuck was she?
one morning, the convulsions began. gods, it hurt, but it didn’t bother her as much as the thought of what the scientists had done to her.
after a year at the labs when she had some control over her transformations, she escaped back into the world. she had made up her mind that she wouldn’t let anybody change her like that again. she was in control of her own life. it wasn’t fair.
she continued with her life before the mutation, robbing houses, selling treasures. she soon rented her own apartment where she could go to school like the other children her age. she could at least pretend to be normal, right? it didn’t work out too well for her, for she found she couldn’t trust anyone in case of betrayal. they could very well end up trying to kill her, even though she couldn’t help what she was, or they could be working for the scientists and were looking for her.
over the years, she had gained a pair of katana swords and a computer from the black market. she usually hooked the laptop up to the cafés around town to teach herself karate. now if anyone tried to take her, it wouldn’t be by force, and she’s been superstitiously going on like this for a while now.
it's no secret she's a mutant in the black market anymore, and she's recently started accepting assassination jobs, and unsurprisingly, she's pretty good at them. some of her victims actually fight back, and that's how she received the two scars, one at her hip and one on her torso. ~ and i am not proud, cold-blooded fake i will shut the world away
------------------------------------------------ THE PERSON BEHIND THIS WONDERFUL CHARACTER IS GENERALLY CALLED EMILY AND SITS AT TWELVE (THIRTEEN IN TEN MONTHS? :3 ). SHE LIVES IN THE EASTERN TIMEZONE.
